Series History

Global Mosaic comes out of the legacy of Link TV’s Peabody Award winning Mosaic: World News from the Middle East, which ran for more than 2,500 daily episodes. Mosaic was launched shortly after September 11, 2001, at a time when the American public lacked direct access to news from the Middle East. The half-hour daily program presented short segments of newscasts drawn from more than 40 independent and state-owned broadcasters in the Middle East and North Africa. Each newscast was recorded off an international satellite feed, excerpted and translated into English, then presented to viewers without editorial comment.

The Mosaic program quickly grew into a trusted source for students, educators, and journalists, forming a cornerstone of Link TV, whose audience reached 34 million US homes and in 2005 became the first satellite-only television channel to receive a Peabody Award for Journalism Excellence. The success of Mosaic led to the development of the weekly regional news analysis series Latin Pulse and LinkAsia, in addition to the Global Pulse web series. Now, the Link TV team is drawing on our experience with these programs to create The Global Mosaic.
